The person who creates a block becomes its admin. The admin manages members and nominations, reviews join requests once the block grows, and can remove anyone who isn't a genuine neighbor. Think of the admin as the neighbor who got the ball rolling.
You don't need the whole block on day one — you need one. Text the invite link to a single neighbor you already know. The moment two of you find it useful (a package handed off, a recommendation shared), the rest follow. Most blocks feel alive at just 3–5 households, and your 45-day trial gives you plenty of runway. We also generate a printable flyer with a QR code so you can leave one in a few mailboxes or on the community board.
Nextdoor is a whole 'neighborhood' of strangers — often miles wide — paid for by ads and the sale of your data, with a feed that's become a magnet for arguments and 'suspicious person' posts. JustOurBlock is just your block: only people you approve, no ads, no data selling, no algorithm, and everything stays private to your block — never public, indexed, or sold. Every post is removable by your block's admin, so it stays useful and kind. You're the customer here, not the product.
A group text falls apart past a handful of people and has no directory or map; a Facebook group means handing your block's conversations to Facebook's ads and algorithm, and anyone can lurk. Members join with a real address on your street, so the people inside are neighbors, not anonymous accounts — and as your block grows, an admin reviews new join requests. Profiles show a name and (optionally) a street address — never an exact pinned location you didn't choose to share. Any member can flag a post, admins can remove it, and admins can remove anyone who isn't a genuine neighbor. Nothing gets deleted. When your 45-day trial ends there's a short grace period where everything keeps working normally. After that, if you haven't subscribed, your block board goes read-only — it's hidden behind a subscribe prompt, so you can't read new posts or reply until you subscribe ($19.99/year). Your neighbor directory and map stay visible. And every neighbor who joins through your invite adds 5 free days to your trial, so an active inviter can stay free for months.
You can cancel anytime from Admin → My Subscription, which opens your secure billing portal. There's no contract and no cancellation fee. Because it's an annual plan at $19.99, we keep it simple — email hello@justourblock.com within 30 days of a charge and we'll make it right.
Yes. You can delete your account and your personal data at any time — just ask your block admin to remove you, or email hello@justourblock.com. We don't sell your data, we don't run ads against it, and we don't track you around the web. See our Privacy page for the full details.
